It might surprise everyone that I have an artistic goal in creating adult art. While I strive to not only portray adult situations, I feel that erotica, lust, love and relationships are important and very real parts of life. My body of work is character- and fantasy- focused. It has a narrative quality to it in that I attempt to create a story within each picture. As the work develops, the characters take on personality and a life of their own. I attempt to portray many emotions and ideas, but mainly focus on joy, notions of trust and lustful invitation.
I'd like to invite the viewer to identify with my characters and their emotions. I use fantasy to allow the viewer to enter a new world that is free of constraints. A fantasy world is one that I can build and create in order to reflect life. Conversely, since I believe that life imitates art, I hope to bring a sense of freedom and joy that the viewer can take with them into their lives. I hope that viewers will be able to imitate the joy my characters often feel with one another and the freedom they have in expressing their emotions.
So now you can see that I'm serious about creating adult art. I really hope to see a future where erotica/porn isn't considered a shameful thing to produce/like/look at. Hopefully, as a society, we'll progress to the point where something as natural as physical expressions of emotion aren't considered shameful or dirty. Doubt I'll ever see it, but I hope to be a positive voice in the adult art community.
And another thing... In art school, I was taught that an artist could never make erotic art that had a male in the picture, because a male subject couldn't be a passive object of desire. A female subject was always supposed to be passive--receiving the viewer's gaze like a "penetration" of herself. I try to create females that challenge the viewer while inviting them in. Well, at any rate, I like to try to prove my teachers wrong...always did.
